This dramatic oak spoon displays the nature of the wood from which it was made.  Medullary rays are visible on the top surface.  The dark "flash" on the top surface shows the raw fibres of the timber with the colour being a product of the boiling process.  The dark stripe along one side of the spoon is formed in a similar way.
